A New Start

August 17, 2010

In about twenty months I get to start my life over again. I am often asked what my plans are. Although many of my plans are more like fanciful desires and grandiose proposals to myself, I have a specific set of objectives that I will successfully achieve.

1) I will live in a comfortable home, with some luxuries, in a rural area without smog, traffic congestion, skyscrapers and so many lights that you can't see the stars. A safe place. A place where wildlife are squirrels, pine trees and wildflowers, instead of tweekers, pigeons and cockroaches. I'm partial to Prescott, Arizona.

2) I will own a nice medium sized 4x4 SUV. one that I start with keys instead of a screwdriver. Four-runner.

3) I will be attending a good college, studying subjects that interest me, that will help me secure a career in business and further help me pursue my passions. Preferrably a school with lots of single attractive women with brains who love tattooed guys with brains, brawn and baggage (I'll own lots of clothes and stuff. LOL) I'm leaning towards Yavapai Community College in Prescott, Arizona.

4) I will own my own online business.

5) I will be a published author.

6) I will be financially stable and secure.

7) I will still have all of my great friends I met while in here and some new ones. I'll visit my friends Shaun, Louise, Helen and Emilia in the UK and many others in the states.

I have many objectives and all of them I can obtain with hard work and dedication. 20 months until the beginning starts.

Shannon,

Congrats on coming closer to your release date. All of what you stated is feasible, as long as you don't associate yourself with the old people of the past. I took the EXACT same path that you desire...going to school, having a little place to call my own, a job. It will take lots of hard work and dedication, as well as starting at the bottom. I started with a mundane job as a file clerk in a little office for $9.25 an hour. I had a studio with a hand me down love seat, some clothes, an old tv, and a bed. 7 years and an associates degree later, I am in local government making $19.00 an hour with a 2 bedroom luzury apartment, a beautiful family, and a car payment. Life is a blessing. I suggest some spiritual guidance (i.e. church) and support groups (n.a) to further your chances of progressive change. Best wishes! -Jose in San Diego.

Hey - "anonymous" with your oh-so-smart comments, why don't you take your negativity elsewhere. It's people like YOU who send people like Shannon, people who realise their mistakes and who are trying to turn their lives around right back to the bottom again. There's no place for you here so why don't you just back off.

I hope Shannon can achieve these goals with the help of his friends and family and from the sensible, encouraging comments on here it looks like he's got a good support network and I wish him every success.

Helen, I was actually using reverse psychology on Shannon to put a fire under his bum, ergot a mental drive to succeed. Now your comments made me expose my plan..great job, Helen. If he goes back to the dark side, it's on you!

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Shannon so appreciates them. As to the negativity, this IS an open forum, but it really doesn't help. Shannon is doing what he needs to to succeed outside, and positive support is vital, let's face it. I've learned to shut off things that don't help, because our family is facing the real practical issues of having an ex-inmate being at home and readjusting to the world again in less than a year hopefully. Thanks also, Jose, for a real world experience that has worked. You're right on all points.
